Tap. Tip. Rate. Done.

Tipsie turns appreciation into income, instantly.

A customer taps their NFC-enabled phone against a service worker’s Tipsie wristband, chooses an amount, rates the service, and the tip is on its way to that worker’s mobile money account. Nothing to download, nothing to scan, nothing for the venue to manage.

Built for every service worker who shows up and delivers.

Every day, the people who make a service experience genuinely delightful, a waiter who remembers your order, a bodaboda rider who gets you there safely or delivers your product, a stylist who does your hair or nails, or a bartender who fixes your favourite cocktail, are tipped in whatever cash a customer happens to have on them, which is increasingly nothing.

Tipsie is a purpose-built platform for exactly one job: turning a moment of genuine appreciation into tips for service workers, securely, in seconds, and with the least friction possible.

The state of tipping

The money went digital. Tipping got left behind.

~3 in 4
of all mobile money transactions worldwide happen in Africa

Unfortunately, tipping for our valued service workers has been left behind.

~7 in 10
online carts are abandoned when checkout friction gets in the way

Tipping through manual M-Pesa transfers is friction too, and QR-code flows add extra steps of their own.

2×
more likely to quit when workers do not feel recognised

Recognition is one of the few levers that keeps good people around longer.

Tipsie brings digital payments, simple tipping, and timely recognition together.

How it works

Tipsie for venues

Every tip comes back to you as insight.

Tipsie doesn’t just move money to your staff, it hands you a live picture of how your venue is really doing, rated by the customers who just experienced it.

Reviews at the moment of truth

Every tip can carry a rating of the service, the food and drinks, and the venue itself, captured moments after the experience, while it is still fresh.

Know who is earning the stars

Service ratings roll up by staff member, so your five-star people get recognised by name and coaching goes exactly where it is needed.

Catch problems the day they happen

Low ratings are surfaced immediately, not discovered in next quarter’s mystery-shopper report. Trends and distributions show whether fixes are working.

Insight without surveillance

You see aggregated tipping activity and review trends. Individual tip earnings stay private to the worker by default, recognition, not monitoring.

Integration on the roadmap

Your ratings and insights live in the venue portal today. Embedding review scores into your own website, and feeding tipping insights into performance-management systems, are planned integrations, not yet available.

How we build

Four rules we don’t bend.

Tipsie removes friction at the exact moment a customer’s goodwill is highest and most fragile, and every extra step is a chance for that impulse to fade.

01

Tap first, features second

Every design decision serves one purpose: tips and ratings, in the few seconds a customer’s goodwill is highest.

02

Attribution without bureaucracy

Every tip is traceable to the person who earned it. Attribution is what makes recognition meaningful.

03

Built for real service realities

Mobile-money-first, designed for the payment methods people use where they live and work.

04

Simple for a guest, deep for an enterprise

A hotel group or restaurant chain managing hundreds of staff can onboard teams, assign wristbands, and pool or split tips with ease. A tourist visiting Kenya can tip securely even when carrying no cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask us something else
Does a business need to change its POS or update its payroll system to use Tipsie?

No. Tipsie runs alongside the systems you already use. Tips travel from the customer’s phone to the worker’s Tipsie wallet, so there is nothing to install on your till, POS, or payroll software, and nothing to reconcile.

Can a manager see how much a specific staff member earned in tips?

Individual tip earnings remain private by default, and venue-facing reporting is aggregated: totals, trends, and ratings. Managers always see service ratings by staff member, but per-person earnings are hidden unless the platform has explicitly enabled that visibility for a venue.

How do servers get paid?

Tips are paid into the server’s own mobile wallet. Earnings settle automatically to the server’s own M-Pesa number on the platform payout schedule; servers control whether automatic settlement is on and the time of day it runs, and can withdraw earlier at any time, where an early-settlement fee may apply.

Can we pool tips and share them with eligible staff?

Yes. A venue can turn pooling on so that new tips flow into a shared pool instead of individual wallets, then distribute them by equal shares, custom shares, percentages, or contribution, on a manual, daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. Switching between pooled and individual tipping applies to new tips from that moment; tips already paid out are never redistributed.

How much does it cost?

Registering is free for venues and for servers. A transparent commission applies on each tip, a platform access fee can apply as you use Tipsie, and standard mobile money charges apply when earnings are withdrawn. Current pricing is shared during sign-up.

Where is Tipsie available?

Tipsie is live with founding partners in Nairobi and actively expanding. Tell us where you are and we will confirm availability in your area.

Are the wristbands available for sale?

Wristbands are issued through Tipsie: venues order them in the venue portal, and independent servers get theirs through a venue, a Tipsie agent, or support. They are not sold separately, and a replacement fee may apply if a band is lost or damaged.

How can I see my earnings and tip history?

Your private dashboard shows your balance, every tip you have received with its fee and status, your payout history, and your average service rating. Venues do not see your individual earnings by default.

Will I lose my earned tips if I lose my wristband?

No. Tips belong to your Tipsie account, not to the band. If you lose your wristband, report it lost in your dashboard straight away, which deactivates its tap link immediately. Mark it found to reactivate it, or ask your venue or Tipsie support for a replacement.

Who is an independent server?

An independent server is a self-employed service provider, or a worker who has not been registered on Tipsie by a venue or business. If your venue is already on Tipsie, ask them for an invitation instead and you will join under your venue.
